Abstract:

The article examines the visibility of the writer Iulian Ciocan in the German-speaking cultural space from an interdisciplinary perspective, situated at the intersection of translation studies, media discourse analysis, and the sociology of literature. The research is based on the premise that literary translation functions not merely as a linguistic transfer, but as a complex process of cultural mediation, in which meanings are reinterpreted and recontextualized within the receiving literary system.
The analysis focuses on the author’s novels translated into German, highlighting translation strategies, the role of paratexts, and the contribution of translators as agents of cultural transfer. At the same time, the study investigates the mechanisms of reception in the German press and within institutionalized cultural environments, with particular attention to how media discourse constructs the image of the author as a representative of a post-Soviet literature marked by political and social instability.
Special attention is given to the dystopian dimension of the analyzed works, interpreted both as a narrative strategy and as a means of articulating contemporary socio-political realities. In this context, the study demonstrates how editorial strategies and paratextual discourses contribute to positioning these texts on the German literary market, thereby facilitating the integration of literature from the Republic of Moldova into the European cultural circuit.
The findings indicate that the visibility of Iulian Ciocan results from a dynamic process shaped by the interaction between translation, media reception, and institutional frameworks, confirming the essential role of cultural transfer in shaping the circulation of (semi-)peripheral literatures within the contemporary European space.
